Stone Pavers – Seal Or Not To Seal

“Do I need to seal my pavers?” The immediate answer is Yes you do.

After investing in a paved patio or driveway, the Paving Services Brisbane Northside to Sunshine Coast customers often ask if they should seal it. Paving sealant is an important maintenance tool to keep paved patios, walkways, driveways and pool surrounds looking just as good as they did the day they were installed. Generally we recommend a joint stabilising sealer, which is a liquid product that penetrates into the surface of not only the paver, but also the sand in the joints. But in saying that, any sealer will make pavers resistant to stains from spilled material, oil, dirt, etc. After a paver is sealed it will resist UV rays and thereby help your pavers retain their natural colour longer, however most pavers available now are manufactured to resist UV rays without a sealant.

Paving Services can include the sealer application in the original project price and will apply sealer for you after the paver has ‘settled’ and you will know that you have had it done correctly. But if you wish to do a DIY on sealing your new paving, the old adage ‘too much of a good thing’ can easily  come into play so you need to be wary of over-applying paver sealer too often. Doing so could create a haze effect varying in different level across your paved areas.

Paving sealers are available in different styles, from matte to semi-gloss to high-gloss sheen. We have found that the glossy pavers are popular as they can give your pavers a “wet look” causing the natural colour of the pavers to appear more vibrant and the darker the paver, the more pronounced the colour will be after applying a glossy sealer.

If you are looking to have your pavers sealed anywhere in the North Brisbane to Sunshine Coast Paving Services can help.
